Myth Series Unit Comparison

Other Units

The Forgotten, Giant Spider, Berserks with sword and axe, regular Trow.

These units are neither Dark nor Light, and many have served both sides.

Unit Name Myth II or Myth III Strategic Importance of Unit
Trow Both These stony giants kick their smaller enemies and punch those more their size. They don't wear armor but hardly need any. The only thing that can really make them sweat is a barrage of impaling missiles, but other than that they are a force to be reckoned with, fast and deadly. They petrify just before death, and if rescued, can be reanimated with healing magic.
Trow Iron Warriors III only One HUGE mallet and thick iron plate armor makes the regular Trow look like boy scouts, if you can picture them in those cute little blue scarves... They are slower than an unarmored Trow, but are otherwise utterly formidable.
Trow Priests III only Trow who have learned dream magics from their goddess Nyx. The Dream of Molten Iron involves a miniature eruption from the ground beneath the target's feet. They are slightly less devastating in hand-to-hand (or foot-to-torso) combat than a regular Trow, which is likely to be little consolation for their opponents.
Cave Spiders / Giant Spiders Both Just don't get near their territory and they won't be a problem. However, if avoiding them isn't an option... make sure your dwarves haven't seen "Arachnophobia" and tell them to keep their distance. They aren't that formidable in combat with an armed warrior, but they are very fast and able to climb up cliffsides, so they make superb skirmishers.
Spider Cultists III only Zealous cultists of Syrkrosh the Spider God, who wear no armor and wield only knives, they are dedicated and numerous.
Spider Priestesses III only Leaders of the cult who throw green gas bombs that poison and paralyze. They use knives at close range.
bre'Unor II only Nasty, murderous forest-dwelling humanoids who wear little more than a skull mask and loincloth, and throw and wield large bones in combat. They live and fight in the company of forest wolves. A strong combined-arms defense is generally the most effective against them.
Wolves II only These creatures are benevolent puppies in comparison to some of your foes, but their speed will make them quite a pain if you're not careful.
Oghre III only These giant slaves of the Trow wield large hammers but no armor. They are fast and powerful, but fortunately much more vulnerable than their masters.

Conclusion

Looking back, I notice quite a bit has changed from Myth II. In Myth III, more emphasis put on particular species of unit, with several variations. Dwarves, Myrkridia, Ghôls, and Trow come in several new varieties. As if Myth II wasn't hard enough, the addition of some fairly innovative units might make some players have to rethink even the most basic strategies in order to be successful. Well, Soulblighter is history, so grab a chair, a mouse, and the forces of good, and prepare to battle evil once again.
